A motorist was killed in a vehicle crash in the Palms area of Los Angeles and may have been at the scene for a day or two prior to law enforcement arrival, authorities said Thursday.

With details still sketchy, California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched at 7:35 a.m. Thursday to the area of the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway west of Manning Avenue, the department reported.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the location at 7:37 a.m. Thursday, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

The motorist had crashed a sedan into a tree and was pronounced dead at the scene.

While seeking further corroboration, the man and the vehicle may have been at the location for at least a day or two, according to the CHP.

“This incident may have occurred one or more days ago, and was possibly delayed in being reported to 911,” according to an LAFD statement. “No further details.”

A representative from the coroner’s office was called out the location at 7:41 a.m.
