Valencia High School was briefly placed on lockdown Friday in response to a fight between two students that sent one of them to a hospital with a minor stab wound.
The fight was reported around 10:30 a.m., prompting sheriff’s deputies to respond and school officials to place the campus on lockdown.
In a message sent to parents, William S. Hart Union High School District officials said “two students were involved in an altercation and injured.”
“During the course of this altercation one student was stabbed,” according to the district message. “Both students were transported to receive medical care and law enforcement is involved. There was a lockdown the Valencia campus while first responders were on site. The lockdown has been lifted as there is no threat to the school. A team of counselors are on site to provide support to students and staff.”
According to the sheriff’s department, the altercation involved two 15-year-old boys. The one who was stabbed suffered a “puncture wound” and was taken to a hospital and was considered stable, sheriff’s officials said.
The other teen was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and taken to Sylmar Juvenile Hall, according to the sheriff’s department.
It was unclear what sparked the altercation.
