A fugitive wanted by federal authorities in connection with a robbery case was behind bars Friday following his apprehension at the end of a standoff with Riverside County sheriff’s SWAT personnel.

Larry Lightning Jr., 43, of Perris was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside Wednesday night.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Joseph Fitzgerald said that investigators assigned to the FBI’s Inland Violent Suppression Task Force received information that Lightning was holed up at a residence on Calle de Amigos in Moreno Valley and went there to take him into custody.

“The (task force members) attempted to talk Lightning out of the house, but he refused to speak to them,” Fitzgerald said.

He said the SWAT unit was summoned, and negotiators engaged the fugitive in talks, after which he ultimately agreed to surrender.

Lightning was taken into custody shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday. No one was injured.

According to jail records, he has warrants tied to an armed robbery that involved multiple victims, but no other details were available. Lightning is being held without bail.
