A security guard at an illegal gambling establishment near the Hollywood Bowl was shot and killed during an attempted robbery before sunrise Wednesday.
Los Angeles Police Department officers responded around 3:40 a.m. to the 3300 block of Cahuenga Boulevard where they discovered an illegal gambling establishment and a security guard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Officer Rosario Cervantes told City News Service.
Two armed male suspects wearing ski masks entered the rear of the building with the intention to commit a robbery, police said. The security guard began observing the two suspects and removed a pistol from his waistband.
One suspect pointed a rifle at the security guard and fired multiple times, striking and fatally injuring the guard, police said.
The suspects fled the scene empty-handed after searching the establishment for money, police said.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the security guard dead at the scene, police said.
His name was withheld pending notification of his relatives.
