Firefighters Sunday quickly knocked down a surface fire on the third floor of an apartment building under construction in East Hollywood.

Firefighters dispatched at 1:27 p.m. to 1034 N. Vermont Ave. had the fire out 1:44 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

“Firefighters were able to quickly get a line in place and extinguish a surface fire (on the third floor) prior to it extending in the structure,” the LAFD’s Margaret Stewart said. “Buildings in this phase of construction are vulnerable and fire can spread rapidly, consuming the structure.”

The LAFD said no workers were present, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
