A man riding a scooter was hit by a car and killed in Long Beach, and police Wednesday urged any possible witnesses to call detectives.

The man was struck about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday on Pacific Coast Highway near Junipero Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Information was not immediately available on the identity of the fatally injured man, who died at the scene.

According to police, a 2018 Dodge Challenger driven by a 21-year-old Long Beach man was eastbound on PCH when the car collided with the man, who “was crossing northbound in lanes of traffic outside of a crosswalk on a scooter.”

The motorist, whose name was not released, remained at the scene and was interviewed by officers, police said.

“Speed, drugs, and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this collision,” police said.

Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call detectives at 562-570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. Tipsters may also use the website www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
