A Colton man was taken into custody Wednesday after a shooting involving a California Highway Patrol officer on Interstate 10 in Indio.
Neither the officer nor the suspect was hit by gunfire, according to the CHP.
A multi-area pursuit began early Wednesday in the San Bernardino area and ended on eastbound Interstate 10 near Dillon Road, CHP spokesman David Torres told City News Service.
The pursuit was initiated when officers attempted to stop a Ford Fusion that didn’t yield for officers, according to Torres.
“While driving on Interstate 10 eastbound, east of Dillon Road, the driver of the Ford crashed into a tractor-trailer combination and became disabled on the right shoulder,” Torres said in a statement. “It was at that time (that) an officer involved shooting occurred.”
The pursuit ended at around 3:30 a.m., according to Torres. The driver of the Ford, identified by authorities only as a 30-year-old male Colton resident, sustained minor injuries due to the crash and was taken into custody without further incident.
Interstate 10 was closed at the State Route 86 split from around 6 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.
