A collision involving an alleged wrong-way motorist in Lake Balboa left a 60-year-old woman and a 5-year-old boy dead and four other people hospitalized, authorities said Friday.
The collision was reported at around 9:35 p.m. Thursday on Woodley Avenue near Victory Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
According to police, a vehicle that was northbound on Woodley Avenue crossed over the center divider and collided with a southbound vehicle.
A 60-year-old woman riding in the southbound vehicle died at the scene, and a 5-year-old boy riding in the southbound vehicle died at a hospital, police said. Their names were withheld, pending notification of their relatives.
The driver and another passenger in the southbound vehicle were taken to a hospital, as were the driver and passenger of the northbound vehicle, police said.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, a 30-year-old woman, a 28-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were taken to hospitals in serious condition.
According to reports from the scene, a gray Honda driven by the 22-year-old man crashed into a white Honda occupied by four people, including the fatally injured woman and child.
It was not immediately known if drugs, alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call 877-LAPD-247.
