A 68-year-old Huntington Beach man was killed in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday in Huntington Beach.

Huntington Beach Police Department officers were called at approximately 3:30 p.m. to Atlanta Avenue and Bushard Street where they learned a gray Mercedes-Benz GLC and a silver Toyota Corolla had collided, said Jessica Cuchilla, the Huntington Beach Police Department’s public information officer.

The preliminary investigation revealed the Corolla — which was being driven by the victim — was traveling south on Bushard Street and entered the intersection with Atlanta Avenue against a red light. The Mercedes-Benz was traveling east on Atlanta Avenue and entered the intersection with Bushard Street on a green light and the two vehicles collided.

The victim sustained serious injuries and taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Cuchilla said.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, a 23-year-old Yorba Linda man, was taken to a hospital along with his two adult passengers with minor injuries. He cooperated with investigators and alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision, Cuchilla said.

The department’s collision investigation team is handling investigation of the crash and anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it is encouraged to call HBPD Traffic Investigator Doug Demetre at 714-536-5670.
