Firefighters Thursday quickly extinguished a house fire in West Hills that threatened other nearby structures.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a report about a house fire with heavy flames in the 7900 block of North Sale Avenue, near Strathern Street, at around 5:25 p.m., according to spokesman Nicholas Prange of the LAFD.

It took 25 firefighters about 18 minutes to douse the flames, the department said.

According to Prange, several firefighters deployed a hose line to attack the fire inside the home to protect nearby structures.

Prange said other firefighters ascended ladders to ventilate the roof and allow smoke and “super-heated” gases to escape, so crews below could tend to the flames more effectively.

Three occupants evacuated the home before the fire department arrived.

Paramedics assessed all three occupants after minor complaints due to smoke inhalation. They all refused to be taken to a hospital.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
