Undisputed world lightweight boxing champion Devin Haney was arrested early Thursday in Hollywood for allegedly possessing a concealed firearm in a vehicle in which he was riding.
Haney, 24, was taken into custody about 12:30 a.m. after officers stopped the vehicle for an unsafe lane change at Hollywood Boulevard and El Centro Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Haney was booked on suspicion of possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle, the LAPD reported. He was released on $35,000 bail about 8:15 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 3 in Los Angeles, according to ESPN.
“It’s a misunderstanding that will be solved when Devin goes to court,” Haney’s father, trainer and manager, Bill Haney, told ESPN. “It’s unfortunate that he was arrested with his armed licensed security, and I’m confident things are going to be worked out.”
Haney was traveling in the back seat of the vehicle when it was pulled over by police for the traffic stop, according to his father.
Police preliminarily had stated that Haney was driving the vehicle.
