A 20-year-old woman was killed Sunday morning when a wrongway, allegedly impaired, motorist slammed head-on into the vehicle in which she was the front seat passenger on a Van Nuys street.

The crash was reported at 3:18 a.m. at Saticoy Street and Sepulveda Boulevard, near the San Diego Freeway, according to a dispatcher in the Los Angeles Police Department’s Operations Center.

A westbound vehicle crossed into eastbound lanes and crashed into the vehicle the woman was riding in, causing it to hit a power pole, the dispatcher said. The woman died at the scene.

The wrongway driver was detained for suspicion of DUI, she said.

A news videographer at the scene said three vehicles were involved, that the woman and four other people were trapped in the wreckage and that one of the injured was an 11-year-old child. The child and the three other injured were taken to hospitals by paramedics in unknown conditions.
