A brush fire that erupted Tuesday in Mead Valley scorched roughly a half-acre and threatened a home before it was stopped.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:40 p.m. in the area of Florence and Dawes streets, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate in the direction of a single-story house, but firefighters prevented the blaze from reaching the property.
Just before 5 p.m., the fire’s spread was stopped, and crews completely contained the brusher minutes later.
The mop-up operation was expected to last until about 6 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
