A brush fire erupted Friday on the east end of Mead Valley, scorching about an acre before crews began encircling it.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 4:20 p.m. in the area of Cajalco Road and Harvill Avenue, just west of Interstate 215, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames burning at a moderate rate through a field.

No homes or other structures were immediately threatened.

Firefighters were using surrounding roads as natural fire breaks, leaving the brusher with limited room to expand, according to reports from the scene.

No road closures were in effect as of 4:40 p.m.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
