Bronny James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers star basketball player LeBron James, suffered cardiac arrest during a USC practice and was taken to the hospital, a family spokesperson told the media Tuesday.

Bronny James, 18, and a freshman on the USC basketball team, collapsed during practice Monday and was placed into ICU, according to media reports. CBS is reporting Bronny James is in stable condition.

“Yesterday while practicing, Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest,” the spokesperson said in a statement reported by CBS. “Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU.”

Bronny James, a 6-foot-3 guard, played at Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth. He is considered one of the top freshman college players in the country, ranked No. 27 by CBS in the class of 2023 recruits. He is a projected lottery pick in the 2024 NBA draft.

“We ask for respect and privacy for the James family, and we will update media when there is more information,” the spokesperson said. “LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”
