On a busy afternoon for firefighters, a brush fire burned about 50 acres of brush near Sierra Highway and Needham Ranch Parkway north of Sylmar in the Newhall Pass Tuesday, but no injuries were reported.
The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. for unknown reasons and quickly took off into dry brush in the area, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The blaze began while county fire crews were already battling the roughly 40-acre Agua Fire a few miles to the northwest.
Both fires burned amid triple-digit temperatures in the area.
A portion of Sierra Highway was shut down while crews battled the flames from the ground and the air.
The flames advanced dangerously close to the 1.2 million-square-foot DrinkPAK beverage manufacturing warehouse on Needham Ranch Parkway, but brush clearance around the facility helped prevent the flames from advancing.
