A man found dead in a vehicle that crashed over the side of an embankment in the Chatsworth area was identified Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The victim of the Monday morning crash was identified as Matthew Kurzyniec, 65. His city of residence was not immediately available.

Firefighters were sent to the 22400 block of West Santa Susana Pass Road about 10:30 a.m. Monday, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“Firefighters found a vehicle over the side of Santa Susana Pass Road, with one occupant, driver, deceased,” Prange said in a statement. “One canine was located in or near the vehicle (and) appears to be in good condition.”

Animal services personnel were sent to take care of the dog, Prange said.

The circumstances of the death were under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department. Crews on the scene indicated the vehicle may have crashed several days ago. Santa Susana Pass Road was closed in both directions in the area while the investigation was conducted.
