The Orange County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a $4.5 million settlement for the mother of two children allegedly sexually abused for years by a family friend.
The board voted 4-1 for the settlement, with Board Chairman Don Wagner voting no.
The issue in the case was whether social workers properly notified Anaheim police about suspicions from the mother of the two victims that they were being abused, according to court records.
In the woman’s lawsuit, she alleged that when she told child protective services officials in 2011 about her suspicions they brushed her off when they realized she was in a custody battle with the father of the two children.
One of the social workers, she alleged, lied about following up on the case and determining the claims were unsubstantiated. She alleged in the suit that the abuse continued for years until 2017, when Alex Beltran was arrested by Anaheim police.
Beltran is awaiting trial on charges of molesting four boys.
