A fire damaged a residential property in Sylmar Thursday, and a firefighter was taken to a hospital for treatment of a “heat related illness,” authorities said.

The fire was reported about 12:45 p.m. in the single-story building in the 13700 block of West Oscar Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

According to the LAFD, 68 firefighters “battled heavy fire and excessive storage conditions for 42 minutes to achieve knockdown.”

“One firefighter is being transported with a heat related illness,” the LAFD said in a statement. “No other injuries reported.”

According to the LAFD, the fire damaged the house, the patio, and a detached garage at the property. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
