A non-injury fire on the first and second floors of a two-story fourplex in the West Adams area of Los Angeles was knocked down Friday.

Firefighters responded around 5:15 p.m. Friday to the 4000 block of West Exposition Boulevard, near Buckingham Road, regarding visible smoke at a residence, according to spokeswoman Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It took 40 firefighters 23 minutes to fully extinguish the flames on the first and second floors, preventing it from extending into the attic or other adjacent residences.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
