A teenager was apprehended at Banning High School Friday in possession of a semi-automatic pistol, according to police.
The boy, whose identity was not disclosed, was taken into custody shortly before noon at the campus, at 100 W. Westward Ave., according to the Banning Police Department.
Agency spokeswoman Sol Avila said that a resource officer assigned to the campus was notified that the youth was carrying the firearm, prompting the lawman and school security personnel to detain the suspect.
“A search of the student was conducted, and a loaded handgun was located,” Avila said.
No one was injured.
There was no word on why the teen allegedly brought the gun to school.
He was booked into Riverside Juvenile Hall on suspicion of being in possession of a gun on school grounds and other allegations.
Officers also went to the suspect’s family home and conducted a search, apparently with the residents’ cooperation, but “no additional weapons or contraband were located,” Avila said.
