A motorist was killed early Monday in a single-vehicle crash at the Port of Long Beach.
The man died at the scene of the crash, which was reported about 3:10 a.m. on Highway 47 near Ocean Boulevard, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Authorities withheld the name of the man, who is believed to have been from Long Beach, pending notification of his relatives.
“Upon arrival, officers located a single overturned vehicle and a partially ejected adult male driver,” police said in a statement.
“The initial investigation revealed that the vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer, was traveling southbound on Highway 47 at a high rate of speed,” police said. “The vehicle crossed through the intersection with Ocean Boulevard and drove into an exit ramp for a shipping terminal. The vehicle collided with cement barriers and then overturned.
“There were no other vehicles involved and no passengers in the vehicle,” police said. “At this time, speed and impaired driving are suspected to have contributed to the collision.”
