A 42-year-old motorist was killed when she ran into a horse on a Jurupa Valley street, which also killed the animal.
The deadly impact happened about 8:45 p.m. Sunday on Van Buren Boulevard, roughly a quarter-mile north of 56th Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The agency said that Jennifer Smith of Riverside was traveling at an unknown speed when her vehicle struck the equine, which was apparently running loose in the roadway.
County fire department paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and pronounced Smith dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s officials said the horse was also dead.
It was not immediately clear how the animal had gotten onto the four-lane road.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Jurupa Valley station at 951-955-2600.
