A Metro A Line train and a car collided Thursday in Pasadena, leaving the motorist with moderate injuries and also sending the train operator to a hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries.
The crash was reported about 9:20 a.m. at Raymond Avenue and California Boulevard, according to Lisa Derderian of the city of Pasadena.
Firefighters freed the injured woman, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and she was taken to a hospital, Derderian said.
Pasadena officials indicated that nobody aboard the train was injured, but Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo told City News Service the train operator was also taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
The tracks were closed in the area for the police investigation, so buses were being used to carry passengers to the Del Amo, Fillmore and South Pasadena stations. Shortly after noon, trains began running through the area again, but sharing a single track in both directions, meaning approximately 20-minute delays, Ubaldo said.
Ubaldo said Metro technicians were sent to the scene to evaluate possible damage to the train involved in the crash and other transit infrastructure.
An investigation was underway into the circumstances of the crash.
