A man suspected of robbing a woman at a gas station in El Monte and the woman who allegedly was his getaway driver were arrested, police said Friday.
The woman reported to officers around 8:45 p.m. on Sept. 22 that she was a victim of an alleged grand theft that occurred a day before at Route 66 Gas Station in the 12200 block of Garvey Avenue, between Durfee Avenue and Cogswell Road, according to the El Monte Police Department.
Detectives conducted a preliminary investigation and discovered that the suspects used Zelle to rob the woman of approximately $2,300 from her bank account, police said.
The woman left her vehicle’s passenger door unsecured while pumping gas, prompting Gabriel Ramos to allegedly enter her vehicle and steal valued property before getting into a getaway vehicle with Melissa Garavito and driving off, police said.
The two suspects were captured on surveillance video, and the footage was posted on social media platforms by the victim along with several news media sites in hopes of identifying and locating the two suspects.
Detectives in West Covina later located both suspects and arrested them on suspicion of grand theft, where investigators discovered a firearm and narcotics in Ramos’ possession, police said.
The two suspects posted bond Friday and were released, police said.
