A man riding a bicycle and carrying a small dog in the bicycle’s front basket was struck by a vehicle in Laguna Beach and later died, police said Sunday.
Police and firefighters responded to Oak Street and Glenneyre Street at 6:53 p.m. Saturday, according to city officials.
The bicyclist sustained critical injuries and was taken to a trauma center, where he died.
The dog, a small terrier, was taken to a local animal hospital with minor injuries and is expected to survive, police said.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the accident, authorities said.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
