A man riding a bicycle was fatally struck by a Volvo Sunday morning on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Carson.

The crash occurred at about 1:45 a.m. on the southbound freeway at the Wilmington Avenue off-ramp, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A man was riding a bicycle on the right shoulder of the southbound freeway when he traveled into the slow lane directly in front of a 2014 Volvo, according to a CHP statement.

The driver tried to stop the car, but was unable to, knocking the bicyclist into traffic lanes. Alcohol or drugs were not suspected factors in the crash.

The bicyclist was identified as 35-year-old Solis Anthony, according to the medical examiner’s office.
