A brush fire that erupted Monday east of Highway 79 in Aguanga burned roughly 30 acres before Cal Fire aircraft slowed its advance.
The non-injury blaze was reported about 12:40 p.m. in the area of Highland and Aguanga Ranchos roads, near the junction for Highways 79 and 371, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said multiple engine and hand crews from the county, U.S. Forest Service and other departments were sent to the location and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate to the west.
As of 1:30 p.m., light to moderate Santa Ana winds were a factor, according to reports from the scene.
The fire started on or near a residential property, but there were no reports of damage to structures.
Four Cal Fire air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters initiated runs on the brusher prior to ground crews’ arrival, slowing its spread, according to officials.
One home was in the path of the flames, but crews were establishing defensive lines to protect it.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
