Police sought the public’s help Tuesday to identify the driver responsible for killing a bicyclist in a hit-and-run collision in Van Nuys.
The suspect was driving a 1990s silver or white compact sedan, possibly a Toyota, south on Van Nuys Boulevard around 11:40 p.m. Monday before striking a bicyclist crossing the street south of Delano Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver continued traveling southbound on Van Nuys Boulevard for over a mile. At the same time, the bicyclist was trapped underneath the vehicle while the driver made a left turn onto Burbank Boulevard, where the victim was dislodged from the car.
Police said the suspect fled southbound on Van Nuys Boulevard, heading toward Hatteras Street.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived at the location of the victim and pronounced him dead at the scene.
His name was being withheld by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner pending notification of relatives. The city is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s identity, arrest and conviction.
