A 74-year-old man who was struck by a car as he was crossing a San Jacinto street, suffering major injuries, died after more than two weeks in the hospital, authorities said Friday.
John Jordan of San Jacinto succumbed to his injuries late Wednesday night at Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Patrick Lynch said that Jordan had been at the county hospital in critical condition since he was hit on Oct. 16.
Jordan attempted to walk across San Jacinto Avenue at Sixth Street, where there is no marked pedestrian crossing, about 8:30 that night and was struck by a southbound motorist traveling at an undetermined speed, according to Lynch.
He said that the driver, whose identity was not released, immediately stopped and waited for first responders.
Paramedics reached the location within minutes and rendered emergency treatment before the victim was taken to the hospital.
The motorist, who was not injured, was questioned by patrol deputies, who determined that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was not arrested.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s San Jacinto station at 951-654-2702.
