Sheriff’s officials seized multiple firearms, ammunition and a 3D printer from a convicted felon after serving a search warrant at his residence in Desert Hot Springs, authorities said Saturday.
The Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force received an anonymous call in October regarding a person manufacturing firearms, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The resulting investigation allegedly revealed the manufacturer as Eric Ahrens, 36, of Desert Hot Springs.
Personnel from the gang task force showed up at Ahrens’ residence Friday night in the 66500 block of Ironwood Drive. They allegedly found a functional firearm, numerous “completed lower receivers” made by a 3D printer, a 3D printer and ammunition.
According to the sheriff’s department, Ahrens was arrested for being a convicted felon allegedly in possession of a firearm, ammunition and manufacturing undetectable firearms.
He was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio with bail set at $10,000.
