The fires were reported between about 7 and 7:30 a.m. along the 1300 to the 2000 blocks of Cesar Chavez Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
No injuries were reported, according to the LAFD, which sent teams of plainclothes investigators into the area to look for the suspect.
According to Fox 11, the man had tattoos on his face and was riding a bicycle.
