A man was killed and three other people were injured in a two-car collision at a Riverside intersection, authorities said Wednesday.
The deadly crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday at MLK Boulevard and Chicago Avenue, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Sgt. James Elliott said a Nissan Versa occupied by two people and headed northbound on Chicago struck a Kia Optima, also occupied by two, going eastbound on MLK, though it was unclear which motorist plowed through a red traffic signal at the busy four-way stop.
A 27-year-old Moreno Valley man in the Nissan suffered catastrophic injuries and died on arrival at Riverside Community Hospital.
Elliott said the other occupant of the Nissan, identified only as a 63-year-old Riverside resident, was seriously injured, as were the two victims in the Kia, none of whom were identified.
The parties were taken to trauma centers for treatment. Their conditions Wednesday could not be confirmed.
The collision remains under investigation, and anyone with information was asked to contact the Traffic Bureau at 951-353-7177.
