A rapidly spreading fire at a two-story medical building near Echo Park has been controlled and extinguished by Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters.
The fire was reported at 1 a.m. and fire crews responded to the 1000 block of West Sunset Boulevard and Quintero Street where they found an outside fire had extended into the 1,875-square-foot building, said LAFD spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
The flames quickly spread from the first to the second floor, where there was a partial floor collapse.
Stewart said an extensive overhaul will be required to ensure no hot spots remain in the insulation above the building’s drop ceiling and firefighters will remain at the scene for an unknown duration.
It took 68 firefighters 58 minutes to knock the fire down.
No injuries were reported and the LAFD’s Arson Section has been called to the scene to investigate the origin of the fire.
