A Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputy shot an armed suspect near a Hemet gas station and Wednesday investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The deputy, who works out of the Hemet Station, was at the gas station at around 10:38 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Meridian Street and Florida Avenue when he saw a suspect standing on the sidewalk holding a handgun, said Sgt. Deirdre Vickers.
The deputy contacted the suspect but the suspect did not obey and the deputy shot the suspect.
The suspect was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital, Vickers said.
The deputy was not injured in the shooting.
