Firefighters controlled and extinguished an intense fire at a residence Saturday in the South Los Angeles neighborhood of Vermont Square.
Fire crews were called at 2:05 a.m. to the 1100 block of West 41st Place between Budlong and Walton avenues, west of Manuel Arts High School, where they encountered the blaze at the large, two- story craftsman, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
It took more than 80 firefighters an hour and 34 minutes to extinguish the flames.
Stewart said no injuries were reported and crews will remain on scene through the morning for overhaul operations.
