Los Angeles Police Department officers Tuesday disengaged from a standoff with an armed woman who barricaded herself in a vehicle in North Hollywood after a mental episode.

Responding officers attempted to persuade the woman to come out of the vehicle then decided to end the standoff when they determined she had not committed a crime, police said.

“She didn’t threaten anyone with the knife,” a department spokesman told City News Service. “She was basically brandishing it and she was having some mental episode.”

Officers arrived at the 6100 block of Willowcrest Avenue, near Cahuenga Boulevard, at around 2:25 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a woman threatening people in the area, police said.
