A motorist was killed Wednesday when his vehicle slammed into the center divider at a Temecula intersection while traveling over the speed limit.
The fatality occurred just after 1 a.m. at Winchester and Margarita roads, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Joey Sinz said that the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was “traveling southbound on Winchester at a high rate of speed and struck the center median.”
No other vehicles were involved.
Paramedics reached the location within minutes and pronounced the motorist dead at the scene.
Sinz said an investigation was underway to determine whether alcohol or drugs may have been factors in the crash.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Southwest station at 951-696-3000.
