Scam calls are on the rise throughout Los Angeles County, prompting authorities to share several tips with the public Friday to attempt to reduce becoming a victim, including never posting personal information on social media.
“Scam callers usually get information through your social media professional profile,” said Deputy Brenda Serna of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The public was also advised to be alert when scam callers claim to be from law enforcement and ask for personal information or seek payment.
“Law enforcement agencies will never ask you for any personal information or financial payment over the phone,” Serna said. “All these transactions are done in-person or through U.S. postal mail.”
