At least five people were injured in a shooting in Compton Thursday and taken to hospitals in unknown condition.

Deputies responded to the shooting around 2:30 p.m in the 1000 block of Acacia Avenue, near Alondra Boulevard, where the victims were located, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect fled the scene, and no description was immediately available.

The details surrounding the motive of the shooting remain unknown.

Sheriff’s officials said investigators were continuing their investigation Thursday evening.

KCAL9 reported from the scene that as many as eight people may have been injured, although the Compton Fire Department told the station five had been taken to hospitals.
