A motorist was killed Monday when his vehicle struck an overpass pillar in Long Beach.
Detectives arrived at Harbor Scenic Drive and Queens Highway around 7:50 a.m. Monday regarding a critical traffic collision, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
During their investigation, they discovered that a 2020 Kia Optima was traveling south on Harbor Scenic Drive at high speed before striking a center median curb and an overpass pillar head-on, the department said.
The identity of the motorist was being withheld pending notification of relatives by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
The collision remains under investigation. Police said detectives are determining if speed and impaired driving were factors.
