A 64-year-old man was struck and killed while attempting to cross a Moreno Valley street, authorities said Wednesday.
David Ristow was fatally hit just after 5 a.m. Tuesday on Perris Boulevard, south of Bay Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Marcos Acosta said that Ristow, an itinerant, was crossing Perris when an Isuzu Trooper approached the location at an undetermined speed, heading southbound.
The SUV driver was apparently unable to stop in time and impacted the victim, Acosta said.
There is no marked pedestrian crossing at the location.
Acosta said that the driver, who was not hurt, immediately stopped and waited for first responders.
Paramedics pronounced Ristow dead at the scene 10 minutes later.
Deputies questioned the motorist but did not arrest him. According to Acosta, there was no indication that alcohol or drugs may have been factors in the fatality.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Moreno Valley station at 951-486-6700.
