Two workers at a water treatment facility in Granada Hills became ill Tuesday after apparently being accidentally exposed to a “corrosion inhibiting product,” authorities said.

Firefighters were sent to the Metropolitan Water District facility in the 13100 block of North Balboa Boulevard at 12:22 p.m., said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“The two 30-year-old male workers are in fair condition with minor respiratory complaints after their isolated accidental exposure to a corrosion inhibiting product,” Humphrey said.

“They will both be transported by LAFD ambulance to an area hospital for further evaluation,” Humphrey said. “No other persons are ill or injured. No escalating or off-site hazard has been identified.”

Cal-OSHA was notified, and the incident was under investigation.
