A Brownsville, Texas man was killed when his SUV crashed into a big rig that was exiting the San Diego (405) Freeway into the Carson Weigh Station, authorities said Saturday.
The crash occurred about 11:20 p.m. Friday on the northbound San Diego Freeway near the weigh station between Avalon Boulevard and Main Street, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.
The 2019 Buick Encore was found wedged underneath the trailer of the 2020 Freightliner Cascadia and both were blocking the right two lanes of the freeway, according to the CHP.
The 46-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
Investigators at the scene determined the Texas man rear-ended the big rig driven by a Durham, North Carolina man as the truck driver slowed in the exit lane to go to the Carson scales, the CHP said.
The CHP issued a SigAlert for the closure of the lane of the northbound freeway while it investigated the collision.
Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call Officer Hernandez of the South Los Angeles CHP Office at 424-551-4000.
