The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner Sunday identified a 46-year-old Brownsville, Texas man who was killed when the SUV he was driving crashed into a big rig that was exiting the San Diego (405) Freeway into the Carson Weigh Station.

The decedent was identifed as Francisco Mora, according to the agency. The crash occurred at about 11:20 p.m. on Friday on the northbound San Diego Freeway near the weigh station between Avalon Boulevard and Main Street, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.

The 2019 Buick Encore was found wedged underneath the trailer of the 2020 Freightliner Cascadia and both were blocking the right two lanes of the freeway, according to the CHP.

Mora was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators at the scene determined the Buick rear-ended the big rig driven by a Durham, North Carolina man as the truck driver slowed in the exit lane to go to the Carson scales, the CHP said.

Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call Officer Hernandez of the South Los Angeles CHP Office at 424-551-4000 or 323-259-3200.
