A man in his 20s was killed early Wednesday after a hit-and-run collision in Canoga Park, possibly during a street race with another motorist, who fled and was being sought, police said.
The crash occurred at about 1:15 a.m. at Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Vanowen Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Detectives reported that a 2005 silver Toyota Camry and a dark-colored sedan were traveling at a high rate of speed south on Topanga Canyon moments before the vehicles collided, sending the Camry veering into a light pole.
Police said the driver of the dark-colored sedan continued traveling south on Topanga Canyon without stopping to render aid.
The injured man was trapped in the wreckage and died at the scene, according to the LAPD and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
Information on his identity was not immediately available.
The city is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the suspect’s identification, arrest and conviction.
