A 23-year-old Irvine man was killed and another man was fighting for his life following a solo motorcycle crash in Irvine early Thursday.
The two were riding together on a Yamaha motorcycle south on Shady Canyon near Quail Hill Parkway when the driver lost control before slamming into a roundabout, according to Kyle Oldoerp of the Irvine Police Department.
It’s unclear who was driving the motorcycle. The victim who died was 23-year-old Jotham Daniel Gant of Irvine, according to Oldoerp. The second victim was in critical condition in a local hospital.
Oldoerp said neither man was wearing a helmet. The cause of the crash was under investigation, but it does not appear that weather was a factor because it was not raining at the time and the road was dry, Oldoerp said.
