A 27-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday and was immediately sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for shooting a man outside a bikini bar in Orange.
Tomas David Villarreal pleaded guilty to three counts of attempted murder, grossly negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and being a prohibited person owning ammunition, all felonies. He also admitted sentencing enhancements for shooting a gun causing great bodily injury.
Villarreal was sentenced by Orange County Superior Court Larry Yellin to 15 years and four months in prison. He was given credit for 485 days behind bars awaiting trial.
Villarreal shot a 30-year-old man from Ontario outside the Second Base bar at 1535 W. Chapman Ave. about 11:40 p.m. Aug. 30, 2021, Lt. Phil McMullin said when the defendant was arrested.
The two men, who were previously unacquainted, got into a conflict outside the bar and Villareal pulled out a gun and shot the man twice in the upper chest area, McMullin said.
The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition, McMullin said.
Villarreal was arrested about 12 hours later in Hemet
Villarreal was convicted in Riverside County in June 2016 of assault with a firearm, according to court records.
