A two-vehicle crash in the Gramercy Park neighborhood left one motorist dead and the other motorist — who allegedly was driving while impaired — in custody Tuesday on suspicion of murder, police said.
The crash occurred about 11:45 p.m. Monday at Western Avenue and Century Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
“A Tesla Model 3 was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound Western Avenue when it ran the red light and collided with a Chevrolet Malibu traveling eastbound Century Boulevard,” an LAPD statement said.
“The impact of the Tesla Model 3 projected the Chevrolet Malibu several yards causing fatal injuries to the (Chevrolet) driver who was the only occupant in the vehicle,” police said.
Alfred Joseph Marvray IV, 28, of Los Angeles died at the scene, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner reported.
“The 26-year-old Tesla driver was identified as, Destiney Baker, a resident of Hawthorne,” police said.
Baker was booked on suspicion of murder, and was being held on $2 million bail, police said. Baker is suspected of DUI — driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, police said.
Anyone with more information on the case was urged to call the LAPD South Traffic Division at 213-924-3621, or 877-LAPD-247. Tipsters may also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS, or use the website www.lacrimestoppers.org.
