A 28-year-old man who was barricaded in a Glendale house for more than six hours has been arrested for suspicion of murder when a body was found after he surrendered, and police are investigating the scene Thursday.

Officers responded to the 3300 block of Reta Street regarding an assault, according to Glendale Police Department Sgt. Victor Jackson.

Responding officers discovered evidence of an assault but were unable to locate the suspect and victim. As a precautionary measure, three schools were placed on lockdown.

Officers eventually pinpointed the suspect’s location at a house on Reta Street, Jackson said.

The schools lifted the lockdowns and allowed students to leave campus safely.

“The Glendale Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT Team were deployed to the scene to initiate negotiations with the suspect,” Jackson said in a statement. “After several hours, the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Vahan Keshishyan of La Crescenta, surrendered to SWAT operators.”

Officers discovered a person dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner was withholding the person’s name pending notification of relatives.

Keshishyan was arrested and booked on suspicion of murder.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to contact the Glendale Police Department at 818-548-4911.
